Oobleck.

I'm always fascinated with weird science. Science that makes you go "huh?". This project was inspired by seeing this video. To make this you need some corn starch, some water and a subwoofer or other source of vibration you can control. You make a 2:1 mixture of corn starch to water. Then by putting the fluid on top of a subwoofer whos frequency output you control, you make the whole mixture vibrate. At a certain frequency you get the oobleck effect. What happens is the mixture you make is a Non-Newtonian fluid. Basically it is a fluid whos viscosity changes in response to increasing forces. By playing with the frequency of the subwoffer, you can create cool stable patterns such as the Faraday waves or the oobleck.
